Root Chakra: Guide to the First Chakra

Chakras are “Wheels” that refer to the energy field in our human body.

Your energy field is a reflection of your physical, emotional and spiritual conditions and it is extremely sensitive. When you suffer from disease and sickness, you develop blockages in your energy field.

Root Chakra

Physical Location: Base of the spine (at your tailbone)

Colour: Red

Element: Earth

The Root chakra is the first chakra. It sits at the base of the spine and anchors the higher chakras to the earth, providing you a feeling of safety and self preservation.

Purpose

The Root Chakra is where we ground ourselves to Mother Earth, and is related to our feelings of safety and security in life – be it physical (health / wellbeing) or meta-physical (financial wellbeing).

The Root Chakra can provide a:

  • Survival instinct,
  • Vitality,
  • Grounding,
  • Security,
  • Courage,
  • Stability

Anchoring the Root Chakra is key to aligning your spiritual self.

Signs of a blocked Root Chakra

Without a strong Root, we struggle both emotionally and physically.

When we are out of balance, our root chakra sends out our body powerful warnings through its associated glands and systems.

Associated feelings include:

  • anxiety,
  • depression / fear,
  • inability to cope with stress,
  • greed, negativity, excessive insecurity
  • constipation,
  • high blood pressure

The right balance is key.

An underperforming / underactive root chakra can lead to negative feelings of feeling insecure, which may spill over into other areas of life including job security and satisfaction, relationship trust and individual confidence.

Contrarily, an over-active Root Chakra could lead to an emotional feeling of greed, inability of exercising self control leading to severe eating disorders and general feeling of desire / more.

Activating your Root Chakra

One should try and get connected to the nature.

Start gardening, hiking, sit on the ground, doing some sort of physical exercise like Yoga, some physical activities.

Minding your thoughts by positive affirmations:

  • I am safe
  • I am grounded
  • I am financially strong
  • I love myself and my body.
  • I love life and people
  • I claim a clean and a good heart

The main idea is to work at growing your Roots – connect deeper with the Earth and Nature. Surround yourself with earth colors, keep in touch and conscious of nature.

Other health benefits of balancing your Root Chakra

The root chakra feeds and supports our adrenal glands – small glands located over our kidneys.

The adrenal glands secrete many critical hormones that help regulate the stress response and is responsible for the health of our bones and muscles, our kidneys and bladder, our body fluids like blood, our rectum, and our immune system.

This important chakra can help us feel safe and secure.
